For Participants

If you are interested in taking part in the FuSeM 2009 International Conference, please read through these pages, as they'll give you information about the registration process, the submission requirements and relevant deadlines.

We would like our participants to have the best possible experience when visiting Bangkok for the FuSeM 2009 International Conference. We have therefore collected some "logistic" information about transport to Bangkok as well as other information about Thailand.

Important dates

There are some important dates you should keep in mind if you plan to participate and/or contribute to the International Conference on Functionalized and Sensing Materials 2009.

Please note that these deadlines will NOT be postponed as there are very strict time constraints for the publication of the proceedings.

Call for papers

Abstract submission is now CLOSED. This page is left here only for reference.

The conference secretariat is already accepting submissions for the International Conference on Functionalized and Sensing Materials 2009 (FuSeM 2009).

The conference is open to submissions in the following areas:

  1. Functionalized and modified Polymers
  2. Functionalized and modified Technical Textiles
  3. Functionalized and modified Rubbers
  4. Petrochemicals
  5. Catalysis
  6. Semiconductors
  7. Advanced ceramic materials
  8. Biomaterials
  9. Pharmaceutical materials
  10. Sensor and actuator materials

Papers not falling within one of these topics may still be considered for the conference, but please contact the secretariat with some details about your work before submitting an abstract.

If you would like to contribute to the conference, please download the template from one of the links below and follow the guidelines carefully to ease the review of you abstract and ensure its inclusion in the book of abstracts.

Peer reviewed conference proceedings

Logo of Scientific.Net

The proceedings of FuSeM 2009 will be published by Trans Tech Publications Ltd in the periodical “Advanced Materials Research”. The Advanced Materials Research periodical is covered by all major abstract publications. It is indexed by Elsevier: SCOPUS and Ei Compendex (CPX); Cambridge Scientific Abstracts (CSA), Chemical Abstracts (CA), ISI (ISTP, CPCI, Web of Science), Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE) and others.

Papers submitted to FuSeM 2009 will undergo a peer review process by at least 2 reviewers.

The full proceedings will be available online via Scientific.Net. All authors of included papers will receive a complimentary full online access to the entire proceedings.

Template for full paper

If your abstract has been accepted, you'll need to prepare a full paper for potential inclusion in the proceedings of the FuSeM 2009, which will be published by Trans Tech Publications. Based on the reviewers' reports, the secretariat will select approximately 50 papers for inclusion in the conference proceedings.

Below you will find links to the template that should be used for the preparation of the manuscript. The template is available as Rich Text Format (.rtf), which will be understood by most word processors. A PDF version is also provided in case you cannot use the above format, so that you are able to see how your manuscript should look like. Please reproduce the expected layout and appearance as closely as possible.

The full paper MUST be submitted as PDF as well as in word processor file format. You can easily produce a PDF under Windows by using the free software PDFCreator, which can be downloaded from http://www.pdfforge.org/. Upon installation of this software, you will have a new virtual printer in your computer. Printing to this printer will create a PDF. Under Linux, printing to PDF is supported out-of-the-box in most distributions.

You must also fill in and sign a copyright transfer form so that your paper may be included in the proceedings. You should print the completed form and sign it, then scan it (Black&White - not true greyscale, 300 dpi, PNG or compressed TIFF) and upload it together with the paper, as directed in the "Full paper" submission page (available in your user's menu on the left if and only if your paper is accepted).

Please note that there are fixed limits to the file sizes of each files (check the relevant page).

Your preference

When you submit your full paper, you will have the possibility to express your preference regarding the presentation format (poster or oral). The same facility is available again when you register online to the conference. In both cases, please remember that the secretariat may not be able to accommodate your preference, due to organization constraints.

Language

The official language of the FuSeM 2009 conference is English. All presentations, posters and contributions must be exclusively in English.

Oral presentations

Venue

Each room will be equipped with a notebook computer connected to a LCD projector. It is strongly suggested that all speakers intending to use their own computer test the connection to the projector before the beginning of their session. A member of staff will be available in each room to assist the speaker. Speakers requiring other audio-visual equipment should contact the conference secretariat before 30th October 2009.
Speakers are requested to arrive at their session room at least 20 minutes before the presentation.

Presentation time

Contributed papers: 15 min (12 min talk + 3 min Q&A)
Invited papers: 25 min ( 20 min talk + 5 min Q&A)
Keynote papers: 40 min

Poster presentations

Paper title, author(s) name and affiliation should be displayed on top of the poster. Text, illustrations, charts and pictures should be clear and visible.

Poster size: maximum A0-portrait (w:84 cm x h:120 cm)

The poster area is located outside the convention hall. Each poster should be affixed on the board allocated by the conference organizers as indicated by the paper ID on the board. Travel information

Airport connections

The secretariat has arranged for a private company to offer transport from the airport to the hotels recommended in the Accommodation page. For more information, please download this file:

VISA requirements

Generally, a foreign citizen who wishes to enter the Kingdom of Thailand is required to obtain a VISA from a Royal Thai Embassy or a Royal Thai Consulate-General. However, nationals of certain countries qualify for visa exemption and others for visa on arrival. Travellers originating from or transiting through Yellow Fever infected areas must satisfy further requirements.

In order to boost tourism, the Thai Government has decided to offer free Tourist VISA between June 2009 and 4 March 2010.

The main page regarding VISA at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is found here.

An independent website, thaivisa.com, hosts forums regarding VISA to Thailand. It contains a wealth of information and many knowledgeable users are usually keen to offer extra information and help for unusual situations.

Travelling to Thailand

The new airport of Bangkok is Suvarnabhumi, among the largest and most modern airports in the world.

Transportation from the airport to the conference site is conveniently and economically made by Taxi Meter; these are secure and reliable services. It will be sufficient to show the driver a printout of our venue page to be taken to the site or a nearby hotel in less than 1 hour (depending on traffic) and for a cost of approximately $10-$15.

The Land of Smile

The conference secretariat is organizing some leisure trip for all delegates, which will be advertised at a later time. Apart from these half-day visits, if you can spare some time you will want to travel around Bangkok and beyond, as Thailand is a great place for tourism.

You can find a great amount of information about things to see and do in Thailand at the Tourism Authority of Thailand website.

Accommodation

The secretariat of the International Conference on Functionalized and Sensing Materials 2009 (FuSeM 2009) has arranged special deals with some hotels in Bangkok which are particularly convenient for accessing the conference venue. By booking with the forms provided below, you can enjoy great savings compared to the regular price.

The Miracle Grand Hotel and the Chulabhorn Hall of Residence are within walking distance from the conference venue; the Amari Don Muang is approximately 7 minutes drive away (a van will ensure free transport to/from the venue in the morning and evening).

The following tables summarize the hotels' rates. Please refer to the booking forms for more accurate details.
